Your file streams directly from your device to the receiver's through a private, encrypted connection. No server ever touches your data.
Yes. Whether you are on the same Wi-Fi or different networks, it automatically finds the fastest direct path through firewalls. If a direct P2P connection isn't possible (due to strict corporate firewalls), it falls back to encrypted relay servers. The free relay speed is capped at 1 MB/s. Pro users get a premium 100 Mbps Turbo Relay. Regardless of speed or path, your files remain end-to-end encrypted.
No. Zero bytes are stored on our servers. The relay only facilitates the connection handshake. We couldn't hand over your files even if asked — because we never have them.
A cosmetic quirk in Windows — not an AetherDrop bug. Task Manager measures at the software layer, not the network card. AetherDrop uses large memory buffers to maintain line-rate speed, which makes Task Manager show inflated readings. The speed shown inside AetherDrop is your true speed. This doesn't happen on macOS, Linux, or Android. To monitor your true network speed on Windows, we recommend using a tool that measures at the adapter level, such as GlassWire or the built-in Resource Monitor.
